Historical Preservation with NAVFAC at Naval Station Great Lakes
TK-Architecture is providing architectural and interior design services to a design build team for a contract with Naval Facilities Engineering Command involving Naval Station Great Lakes, Illinois. The project includes the adaptive re-use and historical preservation of a 110-year old building that is listed on the National Register of Historical Places. The project is converting the facility from the primary central heating plant to high voltage shops that include warehouse space, offices, locker rooms/bathrooms, break room, workshops, and secured storage. The exterior work includes demolition of several auxiliary systems and building additions and replacement of windows.
Design is being done in collaboration and compliance with the State Historical Preservation Office.
